Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel has claimed pole position for the Korean Grand Prix, setting himself up to extend his already comfortable lead in the Formula One championship.

The German set a time of 1 minute, 37.202 seconds around the Yeongam circuit and did not even need to improve on his last flying lap, qualifying two-tenths of a second faster than Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull’s Mark Webber was the third-fastest qualifier but has received a ten-grid-place penalty for the race.

Lotus’ Romain Grosjean qualified fourth but will move up to third, ahead of Mercedes Nico Rosberg and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
