Chinese star Li Na plays an important role in the development of tennis in the key market of Asia, WTA boss Stacey Allaster said on Friday.

“She is the most important player of the decade for me,” Allaster told reporters at the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart.

Li became the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam singles title at the 2011 French Open.

Li is immensely popular on the women’s circuit and last week became one of seven cover people for Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People edition.
