Volleyers in third place

R. Ramkumar found it hard to match Saketh Myneni, but did the star turn in doubles in partnership with Kaza Vinayak Sharma, as Vibrant Volleyers split points with Baseline Bombers in the Premier Tennis League on Wednesday. With the matches being decided on the number of games won, it was another lost point for Volleyers as it tied 27-27, despite having won three of the five rubbers.

While Volleyers moved to the third place with three points from four matches, behind Mumbai Blasters (6) and Sharp Smashers (5), it was the second successive tie for Bombers which had led by five games against Volleyers before the last doubles match in which all it required was three games to ensure victory.

Volleyers had powered to a 34-25 victory over Dazzling Deuces on Tuesday night, as Prerna Bhambri beat Ankita Raina while R. Ramkumar and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan also won their singles matches.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Sanam Singh lost to Sriram Balaji but later combined with Ashutosh Singh to score a revenge victory over Balaji and Arun Prakash, even as Mumbai Blasters won the tie against Accurate Aces 30-21.

Mumbai Blasters bt Accurate Aces 30-21 (Eetee Maheta bt Rishika Sunkara 7-2; Sanam Singh lost to Sriram Balaji 5-7; Saurav Sukul lost to Mithun Murali 4-7; Sharmada Balu & Purav Raja bt Sowjanya Bavisetti & Kedar Shah 7-1; Sanam Singh & Ashutosh Singh bt Sriram Balaji & Arun Prakash 7-4).
