Udayan Bhakar beats B.R. Nikshep to clinch ITF title

Udayan Bhakar beat the No.1 seed B.R. Nikshep 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the boys title in the ITF grade-5 junior tennis tournament at the Indore Tennis Club courts here on Saturday.

It was the maiden singles title for the 16-year-old second seed Udayan who has been competing widely in Asia, apart from a stint in Australia.

In the girls section, Mahak Jain lost steam in the third set and was overwhelmed by the fifth-seeded En Shuo Liang of Chinese Taipei who had put out top seed Akanksha Bhan in the semifinals for the loss of three games.

Boys: Udayan Bhakar bt BR Nikshep 6-2, 7-5.

Girls: En Shuo Liang (Tpe) bt Mahak Jain 7-5, 2-6, 6-0.
