Tsonga takes Vienna title

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga moved to seventh in the race for an ATP year-end finals spot as he became the first Frenchman to win the Austrian Open with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Juan Martin del Potro on Sunday.

The final between the top seed Tsonga and No.2 del Potro, yielded a seventh career title for Tsonga, ranked ninth.

He wrapped up victory after nearly two-and-a half hours, sending down 25 aces. del Potro had won all three of the pair's previous meetings.

Tsonga's victory sends him past American Mardy Fish into provisional seventh place for the November 20-27 ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The results : At Vienna (ATP Austrian Open): Final: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga bt Juan Martin del Potro 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.

At St. Petersburg (ATP St. Petersburg Open) : Final: Marin Cilic bt Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

At Istanbul (WTA Championships): Semifinal : Victoria Azarenka bt Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-3.
