Tak Khunn Wang of France eased past Romania’s Patrick Ciorcila 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the title in the Vasan Eye Care–ITF men’s Futures tournament, organised by the Tiruchi District Tennis Association, at the Union Club here on Saturday.
In the opening set, Wang started off with a flurry of big serves and then broke his opponent in the next game for a 2-0 lead. However, the Romanian broke back to make it 1-2. Wang broke his opponent’s serve again in the sixth game when Ciorcila made a couple of unforced errors. The Frenchman even had an opportunity to close out the set in the eighth game, but Ciorcila, serving at 2-5, fought valiantly to save five set points before holding serve. Wang served two aces and went on to take the set 6-3.
One-sided
The second set turned out to be a one-sided affair, with Cirocila making too many errors and even missing simple chances. Wang, in contrast, looked assured as he blended solid strokes with delicate drop shots. He broke Ciorcila’s serve in the first, third and fifth games to go up 5-0. Serving for the match, he wrapped up things in style with a smash.
“It is a great win for me as this is my first ITF Futures title. It’s a very good experience playing in India,” said Wang.
The winner won a cash award of $1440 and 18 ATP points, while the runner-up received $848 and 10 points.
Dr. A.M. Arun, Chairman, Vasan Health Care Private Limited, gave away the prizes.
The result: Singles: Final: Tak Khunn Wang (Fra) bt Patrick Ciorcila (Rou) 6-3, 6-0.
