Rising Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman advanced to the second round of the USD 125,000 Tashkent ATP Challenger event but his Davis Cup teammate Rohan Bopanna crashed out in the first round today.

Seventh seed Somdev scored an easy 6-3 6-2 win over Spanish Gillermo Olaso in one hour and seven minutes in his opening round of the hard court event.

Bopanna, who was given a wild card entry, lost 4-6 2-6 to top seed and his doubles partner in the event Hsun Yen Lu of Taipei.

Somdev broke Olaso in the sixth game to take the first set. Going with the momentum, he broke his rival twice - third and seventh games - to wrap the match.

In the second round Somdev will take on the winner of the match between Latvian Deniss Pavlovs and Russian Alexandre Kudryavtsev.

Bopanna did not get any ranking point but got USD 1300 as prize money.
