Wildcard Sharon Paul (Tamil Nadu) defeated fourth seed Nehel Sahni (Delhi) 6-1, 6-1 in the women's first round at the Videocon-All-India Open tennis championship here on Monday.

Her next opponent is Sayli Bilhare (Maharashtra), who won in straight sets against Amala Warrick (Karnataka). Wildcard entry Ankita Bhatia (Haryana) beat Sagarika Phadke 7-6(3), 6-2 to progress into the second round.
