Top-seeded Saketh Myneni fought his way past sixth-seeded Abdullah Maqdas of Kuwait 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament in Meshref, Kuwait, on Friday. In the final, Saketh will play seventh-seeded Mohammad Ghareeb of Kuwait.
In doubles, Saketh and Patrick Davidson of the US made the final with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Matias Castro of Argentina and Thomas Statzberger of Austria. In the final, the Indo-American pair was drawn to play the top-seeded Lewis Burton and Marcus Willis of Britain.
Yuki in last four
Meanwhile at Kaohsiung (Chinese Taipei), Yuki Bhambri fought his way past fourth-seeded Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the $125,000 Challenger tennis tournament.
Yuki continued to flourish in doubles as well, as he and Chieh-Fu Wang of Chinese Taipei made the final with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Matthew Ebden of Australia and Danai Udomchoke of Thailand.
Shweta in semifinals
Second-seeded Shweta Rana cruised into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mia Nicole Eklund of Finland in the $10,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Algeria. However, Shivika Burman was beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Harmony Tan of France.
In doubles, the Indians reached the final by beating Kerstin Peckl and Alina Wessel when the Austrian-German combine retired after losing the first set 7-6(1).
Prajnesh in last eight
At Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, fourth-seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran outplayed Sebastian Rivera of Ecuador 6-0, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament. In the doubles quarterfinals, Prajnesh and Issam Haitham Taweel of Syria beat Marcus Yu of the USA and Sebastian Rivera 6-2, 6-2.
In the $10,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the same location, top-seeded Prarthana Thombare sailed past Linda Dubska of the Czech Republic 6-0, 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals. In doubles quarterfinals, Prarthana partnering Julia Valetova beat Brenda Njuki of Sweden and Ashmitha Easwaramurthi 6-2, 6-1.
Meanwhile, in the $10,000 tournament in Markham, Canada, the third-seeded Sanam Singh was beaten 6-2, 6-1 by Milan Pokrajac of Canada, in the pre-quarterfinals.
