Seventh seed V.M. Ranjeet had an easy 6-3, 6-0 win over Niki Poonacha in the pre-quarterfinals of the TVS-ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the YMCA Sports and Games Centre here on Wednesday.

The first set went with serve despite unforced errors from both players. Ranjeet’s experience came to the fore in the eighth game, when he cashed in on two double faults from Poonacha to take a 5-3 lead. Ranjeet then closed out the set with two aces.

The second set saw a listless performance by Poonacha. Ranjeet broke him in the very first game when Poonacha’s backhand volley found the net. Ranjeet never looked back and blanked his rival who committed a series of unforced errors.
