Qualifier Dustin Brown downs Hewitt

Former champion Lleyton Hewitt lost to German qualifier Dustin Brown 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2 in the second round of Wimbledon.

The 189th-ranked Brown achieved his best Grand Slam performance by reaching the third round. The dreadlocked player had never won a match at Wimbledon before this year.

Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz advanced 6-2, 5-3 after Czech Radek Stepanek retired hurt in their match.

Serb Viktor Troicki beat Russian Andrey Kuznetsov 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

In women’s play, Puerto Rican Monica Puig stopped Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Alize Cornet defeated Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-Wei 6-3, 6-2.
