Qualifier Chuang downs Vignesh

Qualifier Ting Yu Chuang of Chinese Taipei scripted a 6-4, 6-2 win over wild-card entrant P.C. Vignesh of India and advanced to the second round of the Vasan Eye Care - ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the Union Club here on Monday.

Chuang gained an early advantage, breaking Vignesh in the first game. Vignesh found his feet gradually, but Chuang held serve without much trouble.

The Indian had a chance to break his opponent in the 10th game with the card reading 5-4, 30-30. However, he hit a shot wide before Chuang served an ace to clinch the set.

Vignesh began the second set on a positive note with some powerful ground strokes from the baseline. However, serving at 1-1, Vignesh was broken after a pretty ordinary service game.

He had an opportunity to break back in the sixth game, but Chuang kept his cool to take a 4-2 lead. From there, Chuang never looked back.
