Top-seeded Karman Kaur Thandi of India clinched the girls’ singles title defeating sixth-seeded Yinglak Jittakoat of Thailand 6-4, 7-5 in the final of the ONGC-ITF junior tennis at the DKS Complex here on Saturday.
Top-seeded Aryan Goveas of India lost the boys’ final to third-seeded Cing Yang Meng of Chinese Taipei 0-6, 7-5, 4-6.
Karman recovered from being down 1-3 to win the first set 6-4. Once again in the second set, from being down 2-5 at one point, she made a spectacular return and won five consecutive games to win the set 7-5 and the championship in less than two hours.
Cing Yang Meng outplayed Aryan in the first set. But the Indian improved his game in the second set and levelled the scores winning it 7-5. In the decider, Aryan took a 3-0 lead but failed to sustain the tempo as Meng won four consecutive games to lead 4-3. Meng eventually won the set 6-4 and the title.
