Now, Sania is heading to Incheon

Three-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza has a change of mind and has now decided to take part in the Incheon Asian Games. This was conveyed by her to the All India Tennis Association on Friday, according to her father Imran Mirza.

It may be recalled that only a few days ago, Sania on her return home after winning the US Open mixed doubles title, left the final decision whether she should take parting the Asian Games or not to the AITA which in turn agreed that the players have the option to play in events which will help them improve their rankings.

“Sania doesn’t want the impression of letting the country down as she had never missed the Asiad. This despite losing lots of points ahead of the year-end World Tour finals, Imran told The Hindu on Friday.

“Sania is confident of retaining her position in the top eight to make it to the World Tour finals which features the best eight players in singles and doubles categories.

“Well, it is for sure she will have to skip the Wuhan tournament which would effectively mean she would lose 900 points straightaway. But she is confident of a better performance in the Tokyo Open,” added Imran.

Interestingly, Nasima Mirza, mother of Sania, has already been named as manager of the Indian team and so she will be with her daughter in the Asian Games campaign this time around too.
