Saketh enters the semifinals
Seventh-seeded Hyun-Woo Nam of Korea upset top seeded V.M. Ranjeet 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Indian Oil Servo ITF Men’s futures tennis championships here on Thursday.
Nam relentlessly attacked Ranjeet’s backhand from the start, and packed his own with far greater power and won the first set 6-3.
Nam broke early in the second set and the comeback seemed even more daunting for Ranjeet as he started experiencing some discomfort while serving.
A medical time-out followed, but it hardly helped Ranjeet’s cause as Nam continued to attack and induced errors of Ranjeet’s forehand as well.
He broke Ranjeet further twice to put himself in a winning position at 5-1 and then closed it out.
In another quarterfinal, second-seeded Saketh Myneni defeated fifth-seeded Vijay Sundar Prasanth comfortably.
He will meet his compatriot, eighth-seeded Karunuday Singh who defeated the third-seeded Frenchman Antoine Escoffier in straight sets.
In the doubles draw, second-seeded pair of Saketh Myneni & R. Arun Prakash will meet top seeds Weerapat Doakmaiklee and P. Perikiat Siriluethaiwattana of Thailand in Friday’s final.
