Andy Murray was confirmed on Friday as a late wild card entry into the Rotterdam Open next week, with the Scot seemingly keen to maintain his winning momentum from Britain’s Davis Cup victory over the US just days ago.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek announced the addition of the world number eight to a field headed by holder Juan Martin del Potro and featuring fellow top 10 players Tomas Berdych, and Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

“For the past week I’ve been in contact with Murray’s management,” said Krajicek. “Because he had no tournament in the schedule between the Australian Open and Acapulco (February 24) it seemed like a good idea that he come to Rotterdam.

“After consulting with his coach Ivan Lendl, he made the decision.

It’s a wonderful addition to our already strong field.”
