Murray reaches round three

January 20, 2011 05:10 pm | Updated 05:10 pm IST - MELBOURNE

Andy Murray advanced to the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 win over Ukraine’s Illya Marchenko on Thursday night.

Murray, who lost the final here last year to Roger Federer, had too much consistency for Marchenko, who is ranked 79th and has never been beyond the second round of a Grand Slam tournament.

Murray has reached two Grand Slam finals - his first at the U.S. Open in 2008 - but has lost to Federer both times and is still seeking to end a long drought for British men at the tennis majors.
