Britain's Andy Murray kept alive English hopes of becoming the first man since Fred Perry to win Wimbledon by comfortably seeing off Frenchman Richard Gasquet of France 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Andy Murray moved into the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating Richard Gasquet of France 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-2 on Monday.

Murray has now reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club in four straight years. He made the semifinals the last two years.

Murray, who is trying to become the first British man to win the title at the All England Club since Fred Perry in 1936, will next face either Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot or Feliciano Lopez.

Williams eliminated

Defending champion Serena Williams was eliminated in the fourth round of Wimbledon on Monday, losing to 2007 finalist Marion Bartoli 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Williams is a four-time champion at the All England Club, but she missed nearly a year after foot surgery and subsequent blood clots in her lungs. She returned two weeks ago at Eastbourne for the first time since winning the Wimbledon title in 2010.

Williams saved three match points at 6-5 in the second set and another in the tiebreaker before Bartoli put down a service winner to advance.

Bartoli lost to Venus Williams in the 2007 final.

Sharapova advances

Maria Sharapova advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Peng Shuai of China 6-4, 6-2.

The fifth-seeded Russian, who won the 2004 title at the All England Club, broke in the eight game of the first-set to take a 5-4 lead in the first set. From that break, she won seven straight games to take control.

Sharapova has also won the U.S. Open and Australian Opens, but has only recently returned to top form after shoulder surgery in 2008.

Sharapova will next face either top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki or Dominika Cibulkova.

Tomic tames Malisse

Australian teenager Bernard Tomic reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win over Xavier Malisse, becoming the youngest quarterfinalist at the All England Club since Boris Becker in 1986.

Tomic, who eliminated two-time French Open runner-up Robin Soderling, is one of two qualifiers in the fourth round this year, along with Lukasz Kubot of Poland. In the next round, he will face either Novak Djokovic or Michael Llodra.

Tomic is 18 years old, 29 days older than Becker when the German reached the quarterfinals in 1986. Becker won the tournament that year, defending his title.
