Mohit, Rishika make singles finals at ITF Juniors

India’s Mohit Mayur and Rishika Sunkara entered the singles finals of the boys’ and girls’ under-18 events respectively in the ITF Juniors Tennis tournament at the MLSTA courts here today.

Fourth seed Mohit, ranked 188th among the juniors in the world, ousted unseeded Russian Vladimir Polyakov, who is ranked 310 places below him, 6—3 7—5 in the semi—finals.

Mohit is to meet fifth seed Czech Republic’s Libor Salaba, who shocked Indian top seed Vaidik Munshaw, in the other semi-final.

Salaba, ranked 255, whipped his Indian rival who is ranked 141 places above him, 6—3 6—2.

Salaba is also is in line for a double crown. He and Polyakov easily downed the Indian pair of Mohit and Vinod Gowda 6—4 6—3 in the doubles final.

Likewise, Rishika is in sight of a double in the girls event. The second seed easily ousted sixth-seed compatriot Prarthana Thombare 6—0 6—3 in the girls semi—finals.

She clinched the doubles crown with Nova Patel. Seeded second, the duo got the better of third—seed Indian rivals Sowjanya Bavisetti and Natasha Palha 6—0 6—0 in the final.

Rishika, ranked 199 among junior girls, will take on seventh seed Ekaterina Tour of Israel, in the singles final tomorrow. The latter ousted Natasha 6—2 6—1 in the semi—final.
