France’s Clement Larriere struggled a bit before overcoming third seed Yurii Dzhavakian of Ukraine 7-6(8), 6-3 in the men’s pre-quarterfinals of the $15,000 LMW-ITF Futures at the Perks Tennis Centre here on Wednesday.
The Frenchman had a bright start. He served and volleyed well and came up with some crisp returns and was serving for the set at 5-4 (40-15). It was here that the experience of Dzhavakian came into play.
He cashed in on Larriere’s errors at the net to make it 5-5 and then held serve to go up 6-5. Larriere saved two set points while holding serve, taking it to the tie-breaker.
