Moldovan Radu Albot accounted for India's Yuki Bhambri to enter the men's singles quarterfinals.

Ramkumar Ramanathan was the lone Indian left in the men’s singles of the $50,000 Emami Kolkata Open ATP Challenger at the BTA courts here on Wednesday. The 20-year-old earned a hard-fought 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Miki Jankovic of Serbia to enter the quarterfinals.

The day also saw the elimination of Yuki Bhambri and Sanam Singh.

While Bhambri, the Delhi open runner-up, went down to sixth seed Radu Albot of Moldova 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, Sanam Singh was outplayed by top seed James Duckworth of Australia 6-2, 6-1.

Ramkumar continued from where he left on Tuesday as he played big shots from the beginning.

He broke Jankovic twice in the opening set to take a 5-0 lead. The Serbian held serve in the sixth game but Ramkumar was unstoppable.

The second set was a well contested one but a lapse in concentration cost the Indian the set 5-7.

In the third, Ramkumar broke Jankovic’s serve to take a 3-1 lead but eventually dropped his own in the 8th game, leaving the set at 4-4. In the 11th game, Ramkumar broke the Serbian’s serve to lead 6-5.

Despite serving two double faults, Ramkumar made amends to win the game, set and the match. Ramkumar will play Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.
