The last few days has been a roller-coaster ride for Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

The 28-year-old on Friday received a direct entry into the Wimbledon doubles event, but unfortunately his partner Hyeon Chung had to pull out due to an ankle injury.

In the last 24 hours, the Chennai lad has made calls to the organisers, requesting them to find a partner. Fortunately, he found a partner in American Jared Donaldson to secure the last direct berth for the prestigious event. Speaking about the frenetic last few days, Jeevan said: “it was a very difficult time to stay in the routine. My only option was to find a player ranked 65 and above. I met Jared at Eastbourne and requested him to partner me.”

On Monday, Jeevan began his grass-court campaign in right earnest, beating French Open doubles champion Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus, partnering Matt Reid (6-3, 3-6, 10-7) in the first round of the Eastbourne International.

Jeevan, who is ranked 98, said the constant rise in rankings has also helped him finding better partners and gaining recognition on the tour.

Even as he made rapid strides, Jeevan is yet to settle with a regular partner. While acknowledging the need for a regular partner, Jeevan said he is not in a hurry to find one.

“It is very important to have a permanent partner. It is half the battle in doubles, as the format demands a set partner.”
