Jelena Jankovic of Serbia has qualified for next week’s season-ending WTA Championships after top-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia lost to Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0, 6-2 in the second round of the Kremlin Cup.

Jankovic is five points ahead of Zvonareva in the race for the tournament in Doha and will fill the final berth regardless of her further results at the Kremlin Cup.

Serena and Venus Williams, Russia’s Dinara Safina, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus have already qualified for the championships and are skipping the event in Moscow.

Zvonareva and Agnieszka Rodwanska of Poland will go to Doha as alternates.
