It has been a fascinating story for Indian tennis in the Asian Games as the 10-member squad finished third in the medals table with a gold, a silver and three bronze medals.
Chinese Taipei topped the table despite the world No. 42 and top seed Yen Hsun Lu losing the men’s singles final to Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, 6-2, 6-2. Taipei had one gold, three silver and a bronze. China followed with a gold, two silver and a bronze medal.
China finished ahead of India in the second place because the second-seeded Wang Qiang beat the top-seeded Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand 6-3, 7-6(5) in the women’s singles final.
The results (finals): Men’s singles: Yoshihto Nishioka (Jpn) bt Yen Hsun Lu (Tpe) 6-2, 6-2. Women’s singles: Wang Qiang (Chn) bt Luksika Kumkhum (Tha) 6-3, 7-6(5).
