Lucas Renard of Sweden recorded an easy 6-2, 6-0 win over second-seeded N. Sriram Balaji in the quarterfinals of TVS-ITF futures tennis tournament at the YMCA Sports and Games Centre here on Thursday.

It was a sweet revenge for Lucas Renard who had lost to Sriram in the quarterfinals of the Tiruchi leg of the tournament.

Renard saved two break points in the third game of the first set. He broke the Indian in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Sriram was broken again in the eighth game when Renard came up with a backhand crosscourt winner to seal the set 6-2.

In the second set too, Renard was unstoppable. He broke Sriram in the second game, when the Indian double faulted to take a 2-0 lead.

Sriram had a chance in the third game, but failed to convert a crucial break point to get back into the game.

Sriram succumbed to unrelenting pressure from Renard and conceded the second set 6-0.

Vinayak stuns Portaluri

Unseeded Kaza Vinayak Sharma from India continued his giant-killing act as he defeated Giorgio Portaluri from Italy 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4.

He will meet Renard in the semifinals on Friday.

Top seeds Sriram Balaji and V.M. Ranjeet bounced back after their singles quarterfinal defeats to beat Tiruchi leg winners Ashwin Rajagopalan and Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-1, 7-5 in the doubles semifinals.
