Seventh-seeded Nikolay Davydenko has withstood 36 aces from Kevin Anderson to beat the South African 3-6, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 7-5, 9-7 in the first round of Wimbledon.

Davydenko broke Anderson for the fourth and last time in the last game of a match lasting 4 hours, 12 minutes on Monday.

It’s the sixth time Davydenko, who returned to the ATP circuit two weeks ago after 11 weeks out due to a broken wrist, has come back from two sets down.

Davydenko, whose best result at Wimbledon was the fourth round in 2007, will play Daniel Brands of Germany in the second round.
