World No. 15 Marin Cilic aims to become a top-10 player in 2013 after finishing the previous season strongly.
Speaking to the media after the Aircel ATP Chennai Open singles draw ceremony, the US Open quarterfinalist claimed that the dominance of the top four tennis players in the world inspires him to scale greater heights and one needs to be strong-headed in order to break the esteemed quartet’s hold on the major trophies.
The Croat, who missed last year’s tournament here due to injury, won two ATP titles en route to a 36-14 record from May 2012 and describes last summer as “the best of his career.” Cilic believes that his time away from the sport due to injury helped him to resume afresh and good results followed thereafter.
The 24-year-old has worked hard on his physical strength during the off-season and considers fitness to be a significant factor in his attempt to rise above in the standings. “The big players produce consistently good performances in the ATP tournaments as they are able to recover well on a daily basis. I aim to achieve that level soon,” remarked Cilic.
