Yuki Bhambri extended his successful run quelling the challenge of Liang-Chi Huang of Chinese Taipei 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the State Bank of India $50,000 ATP Challenger here on Tuesday.

Bhambri, who won the title in the Chennai ATP Challenger, joined Somdev Devvarman in the pre-quarterfinals. However, the other Indians, Vishnu Vardhan and Saketh Myneni, bowed out of the singles.

Bhambri was off form initially against Huang, who retrieved everything the Indian tried. Huang salvaged a break point in the sixth game before turning the tables on Bhambri, who faltered on his serve in the seventh. Armed with the lone break Huang went on to win the first set 6-4.

Bhambri picked himself up with sharper returns and earned quick dividends. He worked up a 3-0 lead, with a break in the second game. But once again lost serve with a double fault, letting Huang make it 3-3.

Bhambri regained his touch in the eighth game where he broke Huang once again and went on to level the set scores.

In the decider, Bhambri broke Huang four times to run away with the game 6-1.

Bhambri lost the possibility of making another grand double after Chennai as he lost the doubles first round (partnering Michael Venus of New Zealand) to Aleksandr Nedovyesov (Kazakhstan) and Blaz Rola (Slovakia).

In the most notable upset of the day, unseeded Agustin Velotti of Argentina sent fifth-seeded Blaz Rola packing with a 7-6(3), 6-4 win.
