The Davis Cup fixture between India and Indonesia at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium here from April 5 to 7, will be played under lights.
The KSLTA secretary C.S. Sunder Raju said that the Asia Oceania group fixture’s tryst with a late-evening slot was primarily aimed at ensuring a wider audience participation.
“We have taken special permission from the International Tennis Federation to stage the matches late in the day, so as to provide the citizens of Bangalore a chance to watch all the ties.
“On the opening day, the first tie would start at 3 p.m., followed by the second singles. The doubles match on the second day will start at 5 p.m. The reverse singles on the third and final day, will be played from 3 p.m,” Raju said.
Meanwhile the KSLTA joint-secretary Ramaswamy revealed that the courts have been re-laid as per the request of the All India Tennis Association. “They wanted a slower surface and we had specialists from Delhi to re-do the surface and it is ready,” Ramaswamy said and added that the sale of tickets will commence next week.
The KSLTA hosted a Davis Cup tie last in 1985 when India clashed with Sweden and lost 1-4 in the quarterfinals. Vijay Amritraj’s 8-6, 9-7 triumph against Mats Wilander was the lone bright spot for India.
