Lukasz Kubot beat Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-2 and Andreas Seppi rallied to defeat Olivier Rochus 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to also advance to the second round.
On the women's side, Gisela Dulko and Johanna Larsson advanced to the second round as their opponents withdrew with injuries.
