Anand Amritraj has been chosen as one of the four players for the Davis Cup Commitment Award as part of the Centenary Celebrations of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for 2013.

Eldest of the three Amritraj brothers, Anand played in the Davis Cup for two decades from 1968 to 1988. During that period, he was part of the national team in two finals; in 1974 when India conceded the title contest to South Africa as a protest against apartheid, and in 1987 against Sweden at Gothenburg. He played singles and partnered brother, Vijay, in the doubles.

The trophy will be presented during a Davis Cup competition in India this year.

Expressing delight at being nominated for the prestigious prize, Anand, who left for the US on Tuesday night, said it would not be possible for him to be present to receive it during the India-Korea match scheduled in Delhi from February 1.

However, the AITA has said there would be another home match before the end of this year during which the ceremony could be programmed.
