Bangalore is set to host its first Davis Cup tie in 28 years, and the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association is confident that the occasion will please tennis fans in the city.

“The tickets at the KSLTA Stadium have been moderately priced to ensure that fans can come and watch the action in big numbers. We have also reserved 1,000 complimentary tickets for children who play and love tennis. These kids can now come and watch the tie for free, as they usually may not be able to afford to buy a ticket,” said Sundar Raju, the KSLTA Secretary, on Wednesday.

Explaining why the city had been allocated a tie for the first time since Sweden played here in 1985, Raju said: “Until a few years ago, grass was the preferred surface for the Indian players. But over time, they have been playing more on hard courts, and now our hard courts suit them very well. I hope we get to host more Davis Cup ties in Bangalore in the future.”

Raju also announced that QNet would sponsor the Indian Davis Cup for its match against Indonesia, and added that the deal is expected to be medium to long-term.
