State-ranking table tennis tournament from tomorrow

The first State-ranking table tennis tournament of the season will be organised by the Centre Court Table Tennis Club (CCTTC) from June 15 to 17 at the Nehru Stadium here.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, J. Selvakumar, Joint Secretary, Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association (TNTTA), said that the tournament had received a record number of more than 900 entries and will comprise 12 categories. “The winners in all categories will get 80 rating points and the runners-up 60, while the semifinalists and quarterfinalists will get 40 and 25 points respectively,” said Mr. Selvakumar.

The tournament will be sponsored by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the overall prize money, amounting to Rs. 51,000, will be awarded to the top 16 players in each category. K. Manickam, General Manager (HR), IOC, will inaugurate the meet on Friday.

Top two seeds in each category: Men: G. Sathiyan, Sivananda Seshadri. Boys:Youth: G. Sathiyan, Sushmit Sriram. Juniors: D. Sameera Kumar, Shashank S. Yogesh. Sub juniors: D. Ananth, J. Rakesh. Cadets: J. Karan, Sriram Kannan. Mini-cadets: D. Vishwa, Mohd. Yunus.

Women: Swetha Kumaravel, N. Vidya. Girls: Youth: N. Vidya, K.K. Narmadha. Juniors: Amrutha Pushpak, R.Ke. Yukti Roshini. Sub-juniors: C.R. Harshavardhini, Abinaya Ramesh. Cadets: Swetha Steffi, Koushika. Mini-cadets: N. Aashika, Vedalakshmi.

Stipends

Food Corporation of India's Zonal Sports Promotion Committee (ZSPC) is to award stipends to 22 meritorious sportspersons (school and college students) who have done well (places 1 to 8) in various national championship, school games or university competitions in the disciplines of football, hockey, cricket (boys only), table tennis, shuttle badminton, weightlifting and athletics (boys and girls).

The students must hail from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala or AP. The stipend amount to be paid for one year initially (renewable subject to performance), is Rs 5000 per month for those in the 15 to 21 years age group, and Rs 8000 for those above 21 and below 24. Cricket camps

Seven Star Cricket Association will conduct regular coaching camps from June 16 to March 2013 at the Ramakrishna Mission School ground (opp. Jeeva Park), G.N. Chetty Road, T. Nagar, and from June 17 to March 2013 for boys above seven years of age at the Pachaiyappas College ground. The camp will be conducted by P.S. Lakshmipathy. MAS camp
