State senior aquatics: five meet records on day one

Five meet records were re-written on the opening day of the Delphi-TVS State senior aquatic championship which began at the Velachery pool on Friday.

Four of the new marks came in the men’s section. The overall tussle was between the swimmers of Turtles and ORCA teams.

Along with the senior meet, the State masters meet also started concurrently to make it a hectic programme. With eight age categories in each section (men’s and women’s), there was never-ending action in the pool.

The results:

Senior State meet (winners only): Men: 400m freestyle: Akshay Krishna (Turtles) 4:13.21s (NMR, OR: Jaywant Vijaykumar, Turtles, 4:14.91s, 2011); 200m breaststroke: J. Agnishwar (Turtles) 2:28.35s; 50m butterfly: N. Arvind (TSPA) 26.34s; 200m freestyle: Jaywant Vijaykumar (Turtles) 1:56.50s (NMR).

200m backstroke: M.B. Balakrishnan (SDAT Shakthi) 2:14.79s; 100m butterfly: N. Arvind (TSPA) 57.34s (NMR; OR: N. Arvind, TSPA, 58.20s, 2011); 4x200m freestyle: Turtles, 8.24.24s (NMR, OR: Turtles, 8.41.23s, 2011);

Women: 400m freestyle: Kavya Gopalakrishnan (ORCA) 4:48.39s; 200m breaststroke: A.V. Jayaveena (Turtles) 2:52.49s; 50m butterfly: Mugdha Mallareddy (ORCA) 30.93s; 200m freestyle: Kavya Gopalakrishnan (ORCA) 2:18.40s.

200m backstroke: Nivya Raja (ORCA) 2:37.45s; 100m butterfly: V.K.R. Meenakshi (Turtles) 1:07.79s (NMR, OR: Sherlyn Devadason ORCA, 1:08.21s, 2011); 4x200m: ORCA, 9.42.92s.

Football tournament

Toss corporate 5s, an inter-corporate men’s five-a-side football event, will be held on September 23at D.B. Jain College.
