Sri Lanka’s sports minister has demanded a report on a speech by former captain Kumar Sangakkara at the Marylebone Cricket Club this week criticising his country’s cricket authorities.

A Sports Ministry statement says Mahindananda Aluthgamage has asked the head of Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee to submit his “observation” on Sangakkara’s speech.

The Ministry says “a report is called for by the Minister as Sangakkara has criticised the sports administration in Sri Lanka, which comes under the sports law of the country.”

In the hour-long speech at Lord’s on Monday, Sangakkara slammed “partisan cronies” in the SLC, and called on the body to rid itself of corrupt moves and play a leading role in unifying the country following the 30-year civil war.
