S. Sreesanth saw the life-ban coming but put up a brave front when facing the media soon after he presented his case to the members of the Board’s Disciplinary Committee.
Obliging mediapersons, with a high percentage among them from Kerala, Sreesanth said, “Whatever decision they take, I have full faith in the judiciary and the BCCI. I am sure I’ll be able to play for the country again.”
In less than an hour of Sreesanth making this statement, the Board made its decision to ban the temperamental fast bowler for life.
“I did not argue my case or argue with anyone. They were all very cooperative. I just gave my side of the story. A lot has been said and done against my name,” said Sreesanth who spent his time in jail following his arrest in Mumbai on May 16 till he received bail on June 10.
“As a child, I dreamt of playing for the country. I’ll never cheat the game,” claimed Sreesanth, the only one among the four cricketers, found guilty on Friday, to have played for the country.
He chose not to answer the question pertaining to Ravi Sawani’s report that found him guilty of spot-fixing.
Looking optimistically ahead, Sreesanth said, “I hope the BCCI gives me another chance to play again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.”
As things turned out, the Board has put a cross against this member of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 World Cup.
Sourav Ganguly had once said about Sreesanth, “What a huge waste of talent!” Indeed!
