Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka held off Andrea Hlavackova's challenge to win 6-3, 7-6(2) after Maria Sharapova beat Klara Zakopalova 6-4, 6-3 to reach the third round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday.

On the men's side, Milos Raonic, the World No.23, defeated David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-4 in a first round match on Tuesday. He now plays third seed Roger Federer.

Jurgen Melzer upset 13th-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 to advance to the second round where he meets Stanislas Wawrinka, who dismissed Olivier Rochus 6-4, 7-6(3).

World No. 11 Juan Martin del Potro, fresh off his title win at Estoril over the weekend, beat Florian Mayer 6-4, 6-2 to also make it through to the second round.

In doubles, Sania Mirza and Anastasia Rodionova suffered an upset first round exit after losing to Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Shuai Zhang.

The sixth seed Indo-Australian combination lost 3-6, 2-6 to German-Chinese combination in the opening round.

India beats Hong Kong

Pranjala Yadlapalli won both her singles and doubles matches to guide India to a 3-0 victory over Hong Kong in a league match of the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 girls' tennis tournament in Kuching, Malaysia, on Tuesday.

Fourth-seeded India will play fifth-seeded Korea on Wednesday to decide the group topper.

The top two teams from the four groups will qualify for the quarterfinals and the best four will make the World finals to be played in the Czech Republic.
