Sathiyan triumphs

G. Sathiyan of St. Joseph’s Engineering College won a five-set thriller to beat his college-mate S. Prasanna 10-12, 8-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-8 to claim the men’s table tennis singles title on Thursday in the Chairman’s trophy tournaments, organised by D.G. Vaishnav College.

Sathiyan also won the doubles title partnering Prasanna. In the women’s section, Sumana R. Krishnan of St. Joseph’s Engineering College also won a double.

Hariharan (Hindustan Univ) 6-2 , 6-2; Prithiv & Venkat (SRM) bt. J. Thomas Premkumar & S. Rajiv (St. Joseph’s) 6-3, 6-2.

Women: Doubles: Semifinals: Shalaka Uddur & Amala Warric (Jain Univ) bt Lekha & T. Fatima (SRM) 6-1, 7-5.

Chess (after six rounds): Men: 1. Rajesh (Loyola) 5.5; 2. Sekar (St. Joseph’s) 5.5. Women: 1. Visalakshi (SSN) 6.
