Veteran jockey Lloyd Marshall passed away in the wee hours of Monday at Bangalore after a battle with cancer. He was 58. Marshall rode for prominent owners like M.A.M.Ramaswamy, Vijay Mallya and Deepak Khaitan. He won around 900 races including classics. Most popular among his wins was a thrilling finish astride Chaitanya Chakram beating Capricorn (Vasant Shinde up) in the Indian Derby at the Mahalaxmi race course in 1987.
