The Supreme Court, which heard the petition filed by Bangalore Turf Club seeking to quash Karnataka High Court's order to shift its operation from the present venue by Sept. 22, has directed that staus quo be maintained till the hearing is completed on the matter, thus providing a temporary respite to BTC. The Apex court, however did not fix any firm date for the next hearing, which is likely to come up next month.

It may be recalled that Karnataka High Court had earlier passed an order asking BTC to shut down its operations and vacate the premises after the expiry of its lease as on Sept.22 as sought by the Karnataka Government. BTC, Karnataka Race Horse Owners Association (KROA), Breeders Association and BTC Employees Association, however chose to challenge the order in the Supreme Court and BTC, had claimed that it was the rightful owner of the land, which came as a ‘ grant'.

Mr.Nirmal Prasad, secretary of the BTC said “ hearing is not over yet and we have to wait and watch''.Meanwhile, ahead of the SC hearing, the employees of the BTC, sought divine help for a favourable verdict by conducing a ‘ homa' on Monday.
