The 29th edition of the McDowell Signature Indian Derby will be run on Sunday (February 3) at the Mahalaxmi race course here.
The Indian Derby, that McDowell has been sponsoring since 1985, has been the richest race in the country.
The rise in the stakesmoney has reached a record high Rs. 3 crore this year and the winner will get a whopping Rs. 1.8 crore. While addressing the media at a press conference on Thursday, Mr. K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Chairman, RWITC, said, “Here at the post position draw and the unveiling of the rolling trophy of this grand event, I am delighted to experience the palpable excitement at the beautiful amalgamation of powerful racing and captivating fashion. It has been our privilege to host India’s biggest, grandeur exemplified McDowell Signature Indian Derby. With a record Rs. 3 crore prizemoney to be won, it cannot get bigger than this!”
