Yuvraj, Samal declared winners

Yuvraj Singh and Samal Pradhan of INWTC with 11 points were declared winners of the Hobie 16 inland National championship at the Hussain Sagar Lake on Saturday.

They had a clear lead over their opponents and did not take part in the ninth race held on Saturday. The final round of races will be held on Sunday where the rest of the field will fight it out for second and third places.

Ayesha Lobo triumphs

Ayesha Lobo won the title in the women’s category of the match racing event. Eighteen- year-old Ayesha, a student of St. Xavier’s College (Mumbai), was the Gold medallist at the Hobie 16 Nationals held in Mumbai recently.

Her crew members were Hermann Kaur, Dhanya Pilo, and Capt. S. Gill who were sailing together for the first time with Capt. Gill never having sailed before. The men’s title will be decided on Sunday.

Upamanyu in lead

In the Optimist category Upamanyu Dutta with 11 points is in the lead on the penultimate day of the championship.

The last race of the event will be sailed on Sunday.

The results: Optimist: Race 5: 1. Upamanyu Dutta, 2. Zephra Currimbhoy, 3. Shubham Pilley.

Race 6: 1. Upamanyu, 2. Sidra Sabir, 3. Zephra.

Race 7: 1. Sidra, 2. Zephra, 3. Upamanyu.

Hobie 16: Race 9: 1. Kaushal Kumar and M. Girish, 2. Yaduraj Lad and Azhar Sheikh, 3. B. Barik and Balraj.
