The new president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach has clearly proved to be a source of inspiration for some of the international sports federations, baseball/softball and squash, in particular, with his open thinking regarding the future of the Olympics and possibility of raising the number of disciplines in the Games.
Baseball/softball and squash were dropped as the IOC decided to bring back wrestling for the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
But with indications of a possible inclusion of baseball/softball in Japan, the World Squash Federation too has been nursing high hopes. WSF president N. Ramachandran had an official meeting with the IOC president in Lausanne recently, and speaking from London on Monday he said: “We utilised the occasion to once again highlight squash’s credentials to be part of the mega sports programme.” It is also understood that both the WSF and the Federation of baseball/softball have planned to present their cases to the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees , Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al-Sabah.
