Tiger Woods will return to competitive golf at the 2017 Hero World Challenge (HWC) set to be held at Albany in the Bahamas from November 30, according to a release from his foundation which supports the event.

The 14-time Major champion, coming out of convalescence following a fourth back operation in the past three years, has not played since withdrawing from the Dubai Desert Classic in February.

The tournament host and five-time winner of the event confirmed his return by jocularly tweeting “I’d like to thank the committee of 1 for picking myself and Daniel Berger to play in this year’s #HeroWorldChallenge.”

It may be recalled Woods had made a similar return last year at the elite 18-player field. The invitation-only PGA Tour event, offering a $3.5 million prize purse, will feature winners of 22 Major championships and 13 players who competed in this year’s Presidents Cup.

The field: Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Alex Noren, Marc Leishman, Tommy Fleetwood, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Charley Hoffman, Kevin Kisner, Tiger Woods (host) and Daniel Berger (exemption).
