Gursimar Badwal (one-under 71) carded the day’s only sub-par round to take the lead in the first round of the ninth leg of the Hero women’s professional golf tour, at Prestige Golfshire here.

Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall, who between them have won five of the eight events this season, started poorly. Vani shot 77, while Amandeep was further behind with 78.

Gursimar began with bogeys on the second and third holes, but found her rhythm on the back nine.

The 24-year-old leader is two shots clear of second-placed amateur Ridhima Dilawari.

Four players — Pranavi Urs, Gaurika Bishnoi, Neha Tripathi and Mehar Atwal — lie third.

The scores (top-8):

71: Gursimar Badwal, 73: Ridhima Dilawari (A), 74: Pranavi Urs (A), Gaurika Bishnoi, Neha Tripathi, Mehar Atwal, 75: Siddhi Kapoor, 76: Sonam Chugh, Suchitra Ramesh, Afshan Fatima.
