WLBSA world snooker and billiards: Chitra and Umadevi to represent India

April 17, 2014 03:23 am | Updated May 21, 2016 11:45 am IST - Bangalore:

Chitra Magimairaj and R. Umadevi will represent India at the WLBSA world snooker and billiards championship, which begins at Leeds (England) on Friday.

Chitra, a two-time world billiards champion, will compete only in the snooker event. Umadevi, the 2012 world billiards champion, will compete in the billiards, snooker and senior snooker (for 40 years and above) events.

The snooker field poses the toughest challenge, with the likes of professional cueist Reanne Evans, England’s world no. 1 Maria Catalano, current IBSF champion Wendy Jans (Belgium) and two-time IBSF champion Ng On Yee (Hong Kong) in the mix.

“There are quite a few terrific players in the snooker event; Reanne (Evans) will be the biggest threat. I will be happy to reach the semifinal,” said Chitra on Wednesday. “This is a title I’ve always wanted to win,” she said.

Chitra added that since the billiards event attracted only six entries, she opted to pull out and focus on snooker.

Umadevi, meanwhile, stated that she will “approach the tournament with confidence”.
