WADA 2014 prohibited list is published

September 29, 2013 12:22 am | Updated June 02, 2016 03:57 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has brought out the 2014 prohibited list of banned substances with a few changes to the list of the previous year.

Among the noteworthy changes, under in-competition stimulants, WADA has reclassified some drugs that metabolize to amphetamine (which decreases fatigue) and methamphetamine (used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obesity) as improved analytical techniques permit the identification of the administered drug and corresponding metabolites.

MDMA (used to reduce anxiety) and MDA (a recreational drug) are now reclassified because they are now recognised as less likely to be used as doping agents.

Cathinone and its analogues — such as mephedrone, methedrone, a-pyrrolidinovalerophenone) and trimetazidine — have been added as examples to reflect emerging patterns of drug use.

In order to detect potential patterns of abuse, mitragynine has been added to the narcotics class of the monitoring programme.
