Vishwas, Chekrovolu to the fore

Vishwas of Services and Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland took the respective top positions in the men's 90m and women's 70m events of the recurve segment at the 32nd Sahara senior National archery championship in Jamshedpur on Wednesday.

Vishwas shot 329 points out of a possible 360. Mangal Singh Champia of Railways was second with 317 and Kapil Kumar, also of Railways, finished third with 317. Champia's greater number of bull's eye gave him the second place.

Chekrovolu collected 330 points, four ahead of junior World champion Deepika Kumari of Steel Plant. Satbir of Punjab was third with 323.

In the compound segment, the ranking round was completed after archers shot 72 arrows over a 50m distance. Rajat Chauhan of Rajasthan surprised a strong field with a score of 702 points out of a possible 720. Internationals Ch. Jignas and C. Srither, both of Services, were second and third with 701 and 700 points respectively.

Manjudha Soy took the top spot in women's compound with a score of 693. Andhra Pradesh's up and coming V. Jyothi Surekha was second (675) and Parveena of Punjab was third (675), the former was adjudged second on the number of bull's eyes registered.
