Vishnu takes lead

National champion Vishnu Sarvanan of the CESC led the field on the penultimate day of the Optimist championship in the Monson Regatta sailing meet at the Hussainsagar Lake here on Saturday. He now has nine penalty points and is well positioned to win the title on Sunday.

One of the good performances of the day came from Diya Corea of RBYC who won a race despite strong challenge from more experienced sailors such as Vishnu. At the end of the day she was in second spot with 27 penalty points.

In the IndOpti class Aditi Raorane of the Sea Cadet Core is tied with B. Venkatesh of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad. Both have 29 points without discard.

A celebrity race was organised which saw the participation of cricketer Rahul Dravid and movie star Daggubati Rana and which provided some exciting moments for the spectators.

The results:

Optimist Open (after seven races): 1. Vishnu Sarvanan (CESC- 9 penalty points), 2. Diya Corea (RBYC - 27 ppts), 3. Ramya Sarvanan (CESC - 28 pts).

IndOpti Class: 1. Aditi Raorane (Sea Cadet Corps) and B. Venkatesh (YCH) - 29 penalty points each, 2. B. Ravi Kumar (YCH - 34 pts).
