Viraj Madappa is champion

Viraj Madappa secured his second win on the Toyota IGU junior tour when he emerged victorious in Toyota IGU Eastern India held at the par 69 course of the Tollygunge Club here on Friday.

Local lad Madappa, who won the Toyota IGU Northern India earlier this year, carded a level par 69 making his four day total 277 (69, 69, 70, 69).

Shubhankar Sharma from ITC Classic, Manesar, staged a comeback with one under par 68 on the final round to finish second with a total score of 282 (69, 67, 78, 68). Manu Gandas from DLF Golf and Country Club finished third with a total score of 287 (67, 74, 72, 74).

“I am very happy that I was very consistent throughout the four days. It is a special feeling to win at home and I will cherish this victory for a long time,” Madappa said after the victory.

In the under-14 category, Piyush Sangwan of DLF won with a lead of 10 shots. His total was 292 (71, 74, 74, 73). Tanvir Kahlon (Air Force Golf Course, Delhi) was second with a total of 302 (77, 76, 72, 77) over four days.

Udayjit Bhalotia, playing on his home course as well, carded identical scores with Kahlon but was placed third on the back nine count.
